Pests

Hornets can be notorious and cause huge problems. Hornet bites are more fatal than bees. In fact, it is also hard to track down a hornet’s nest and get rid of it. Most of the time, the homeowners call a pest control service to eradicate a nest or an infested zone taking proven measures.

If you find a few of them flying around in your home on a regular basis, they might have prepared a nest already in a corner of the house. It also depends on the species that has infested your home. The experts of Ecogreek suggest taking precautions when you want to get rid of hornets and wasps.

How to remove a hornet’s nest?

Locate the nest

First, you have to locate the nest. During the springtime, the nests are generally in their preliminary stage. The size of these nests will resemble a table tennis ball. The small nest is easy to remove. During the summer, an army of hornets is ready to serve the queen. It means that the nest will be bigger than a basketball. Follow a few hornets and find out the nests.

Protection

Cover your entire body, especially your head, properly when you are willing to take down a hornet’s nest. Your clothing should cover you properly and should be thick enough to stop hornet stings. Wear rubber boots and rubber gloves too.

Mark and spray

When you have discovered the nest, mark a point at least 20 feet distant from it facing the opening. The distance should be maintained so that you can protect yourself from the raging hornets. In fact, a hornet’s nest should be taken down at night. Lack of sunlight will give you an upper hand.

Use red flashlight and target

Use red cellophane on your flashlight to make it almost invisible to the hornets. Spray the insecticide from the marked distance. Spray for 10 seconds on the opening. Hold the spraying stream for a few seconds and leave once you hear angry buzzing around you. Check the next day and repeat if necessary.

Controlling hornet infestation

Seal every crack present in the walls. Make a comprehensive survey of your home to find cracks in the roof line, soffits, eaves, siding, awnings, etc. Never keep dustbins and other food sources open. Always feed your pet indoors. Remember to close openings and cracks in the ground too. This is how you can remove and control hornet infestation. When it is out of hands, give a call to the Ecogreek experts for safe removal of a hornet’s nest.
